WEEK 1

Alicia

Plan:

As we formed the group on the day of PROW itself, we did not have any initial plans on what to do together. However, during the time of PROW, we decided with a genre that we wanted to work towards which was Indie, as well as planned to complete our production schedule that was due at the end of the day. Loke brought up that he had a demo that fits well with the genre and all that we were working towards so we decided to listen to it and thought on whether it would be plausible to be used.

Do:

During PROW, we first listened to Loke's demo that he had mentioned before. It does sound good and it was fitting for our genre that we were working towards. Loke then mentioned that he needed some chords for the prechorus which he was missing - where I suggested for him to use his chords for the verse/chorus but reversed. After trying it out, he thought that it actually fit well and everything went well after that. After that, once the production schedule template was released, I started working out a rough timeline that could work well with everyone in the group. Our plan was to allocate as much time as possible for the planning area - such as melody, lyrics, arrangement, demos as well as recording too, and to cut shorter on mixing and mastering as it could be stacked in a sense where when we were done recording for one of the songs, we can start mixing on it already while the other song was not being recorded yet. After having approval from both Loke and Bernice, everything was done.

Check:
After allowing Leon to listen to the demo that Loke had, he felt that it could potentially be a good song or a bad song. Which was understandable as we did not have any melody or lyrics to show him at this point. He felt that for our production schedule, it might seem too rush for the mixing and mastering area but still, he said that mixing and mastering two songs in a span of 1 week+ is still do-able so we will have to gauge how it goes as time passes.

Reflect:
We have to come up with melody and lyrics for our song so that Leon is able to critique on our demo more objectively, and work closely with our production schedule as it is very probable to change.

Plan:

We weren't really sure what we were going to do for the first week so we fixed the
production schedule first. We agreed unanimously that our genre would be some indie sort
thing.

Do:

We wanted more emphasis on lyrics and melody so we scheduled
more time spent on these elements. Loke mentioned he had a demo and played it for Alicia
and I. We ended up really liking the track and it gave us some form of direction.
Check:

Leon looked over our schedule and highlighted that we only planned our mixing for one week; in which he mentioned was fine. However, we weren't exactly the best in this aspect. Realizing that we overlooked this crucial factor, we talked it through and agreed to observe and make changes along the way.

Reflect:

Being our first time working together, I think there was some form of communication barrier preventing us from suggesting potential ideas. I think we have to put in effort to get to know each other better and feel more comfortable in each other's presence. This will make the production a smoother and enjoyable process.

Loke

For the first week of PROW we didn’t exactly plan to do anything and we were kinda stuck on choosing a genre to start on. I brought up a track that i’ve been working on for a little bit during the holidays and decided to work from there. I’ve been stuck on the pre-chorus of my song for quite awhile and wasn’t sure what to do with it until Alicia told me to just reverse the chords. It sounded like a ridiculous idea at first until i actually tried it. From there, we recorded the bassline for that prechorus and started moving on. At home, I didn’t really touch the track besides mess around with some plug-ins and EQs to make the guitar sound more “Indie”. This week we’re planning to work on melodies and lyrics for the song and also the arrangement. I’ve recorded down some melody ideas and put it up on the shared Logic session as well. I think our group is quite on track, as messy as we are.
